Time to face Google’s new mobile-friendly updates
There’s no doubt about it, your small business website has been impacted (and penalized) if you weren’t on board with these mobile responsive site changes before April 21. Confused? Don’t worry, CMDS is here to help you pass the mobile-friendly test with google to gain a significant advantage against your competitors in the mobile search results.
Here’s What You Need To Know
Mobile traffic is becoming a larger part of your overall traffic, in fact, mobile devices now account for 60 percent of the traffic on the web, according to a report from comScore. On April 21, 2015 Google launched its mobile-friendly ranking algorithm.
Alga-what, you say? For any given search, you’ll receive back thousands of webpages with information. Google’s algorithms are the processes and formulas that take your questions and turn them into answers that rely on over 200 unique signals or “clues” making it possible to determine what you’re really looking for. These signals include things like the terms on websites, content updates, your region and PageRank. There are many components to this search process and Google is constantly updating their technologies and systems, so your website has to keep up to keep rank.
What is considered mobile-friendly?
Google considers these main elements when judging a page for their ranking as detected by Googlebot:
• Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
• Uses text that is readable without zooming
• Sizes content to the screen so users don’t have to scroll horizontally or zoom
• Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped
Check if your site is mobile friendly.
It’s time to make your website mobile friendly (if it isn’t already)… if you’re not sure, simply pick up your smart phone and search your business name in Google. It will come up with a “mobile friendly” label next to it if you are indeed mobile friendly.
Don’t panic.
If you were unable to have your entire website optimized by the April 21st deadline, don’t panic. Any changes made to your webpages that miss the deadline will be recognized by Google as soon as it crawls your page.
